The first Shikoku litter in Germany!

On July 30, 2020, Shinryu and Reiko went on a date night. We made our way to Reiko's first great love. More than happy with her choice and the blessing of Shinryu's Mama, we happily set off. It was a warm summer day. Despite some construction sites, we still got to the date on time. A nice trip into the countryside should be the chance for both of them to have a good time. Unfortunately, this plan was not crowned with success. Assuming we had picked the wrong time, we decided to try it again in familiar surroundings and with free development.

Since Shinryu's family was in the stress of moving, I was responsible for the supervision and lo and behold, the interest was more than great. Everything went faster than expected. As soon as I noticed the approach, I called for help, because it was Reiko's first time and Shinryu was a relatively "foreign" male to me. Everything was new for Reiko and I had to hold my paw. She screamed like crazy that even the neighbors came and asked if everything was ok.

A mating! The beginning of something big. We gave everyone a break, went out to eat and looked around a bit before attempting attempt 2 in the evening. The longing was great on both sides, which is why it went just as quickly and well as the first time.

In the evening we made our way home in good spirits after a great day with great people and dogs. We thought for a long time whether we wanted to take this trip again on Saturday to improve our chances. In mutual well-considered interest and consultation, we decided to let fate and luck decide. Surely both had a huge longing, but the long distance and announced heat deterred us. Either it works or not. Shinryu is a great male with experience. The success speaks for him. We would rather treat ourselves to rest than destroy something with another trip and the associated stress.

August 28th, 2020 proved us right. We went to the vet for an ultrasound. A doctor examined Reiko and put his hand in the fire for 4 puppies. We didn't let Reiko shave for a variety of reasons, so there wasn't a safe number.

We were happy and were very busy with various precautions until the birth. A rough calculation date was available.

Now it should be ready on September 28th, 2020. In the afternoon Reiko behaved more than strikingly unusual. It should probably start before the picture book date (October 1st, 2020). I grabbed Mamabär and we started with prenatal exercises ;) As fate would have it, I had 2 little helpers on hand.

Reiko knew in theory what was going to happen next. Finally, she accompanied me on some VDH courses. Instinctively she was so experienced, just indescribable. I took the little ones from her to check while she took care of the next ones. After all, we had more theory than practice and hardly any references.

Happiness was complete but 2 very small. We had bad fears because 2 little bears from the litter of 7 of our male Taro had not made the step into life. Reiko is a great mom and she can count on me like I can count on her. The result proved us right. We made it and cleared the hurdle. Now the legend of the baby bears begins.
