The first Shikoku Kennel in Germany!

We focused on the training and waited for Reiko's papers. Unfortunately, because of Corona, we started a little later than planned. Nevertheless, our kennel was the first to be inspected and approved by our breed warden on June 13th, 2020. The official confirmation by the FCI with our name was on September 9th, 2020.

On September 28th, 2020, thanks to a special permit, we were able to welcome the first Shikoku litter in Germany!

Why Nihon's Legend?

We thought long and hard about the name of our kennel. No one should underestimate the effort and work involved.

For a Japanese breed, only a Japanese name actually came into question. Not an easy hurdle for our mainly German audience. The next sticking point is that the name should be short and simple. The puppy name must not exceed 40 characters. We continued to think about whether we shouldn't also consider German or English variations. For the application we needed 4 suggestions. After much and long consideration, we also had great ideas. The day of truth came and we asked people around us which names were simple, understandable and easy for them. To our great surprise, this was ao Nihon's Legend. The big list of names became a small one. We compared this in advance with the public list of kennel names from the FCI. The list got smaller though Nihon's Legend also cleared this hurdle and thus came to our application.

What does this name mean now? What does it mean to us?

Nihon, along with Nippon, is the Japanese word for Japan. Legend comes from English and means legend. Our puppies are called in German: "Japan's legend puppy name ". 

We wanted a simple, short but strong and meaningful name for our kennel. We think we have this in  Nihon's Legend  found. In addition to a Japanese word, we deliberately opted for a simple English addition. In our opinion, the name is very tolerable for everyone. 

Nihon - Japan, it's a passion and love that is second to none. That is why we have not only dedicated our homepage to our children or the Shikoku, but to all NIHON KEN as well as to Japanese culture and history. That's why we don't have the more familiar word  nippon  chosen. 

Legend - legends, sagas and myths, epics that are second to none. I love fairy tales and co. So it is not surprising that we create new ones by consciously choosing and linking our kennel and puppy names. We want to enlighten and enchant. Bringing meanings closer as we forget our culture in this new hectic time.
