Kai Ken

Kai Ken, Tora Inu - Tiger Dog

since 1933 natural monument

As the name suggests, the tiger coat is typical of the Kai.

2 guys formed the foundation for the Kai Ken. As with other Nihon Ken, certain line types may predominate. However, none of the lines are preferred in Japan. You will be treated completely equally.

Shishi-Inu-Gata have thicker, stockier proportions and a bear-like face. Primarily for wild boar hunting.

Shika-Inu-Gata have longer, small bodies with fox-like faces. Mainly for deer hunting.

Both combine today's Kai with strength, speed, agility and high, quick thinking abilities as well as endurance.

Character:

They are very submissive (submissive) and protective of their masters - 1 person dogs. Their skill and self-interest (survival instinct) make them very good problem solvers. They are adept at using their paws and love high places (good climbers).

Kai are very sensitive and have a strong memory for both positive and negative experiences. Good socialization and training is essential for this breed to prevent behavioral and developmental problems.

They are not really guard and protection dogs.

Current:

They are even used as search and rescue dogs in Japan.

When choosing your Kai Ken, you should pay close attention to what you are looking for and want. There are different standards with different permissible sizes that can exclude each other.

- please refer to the overview table below for more details -

Health:

Unfortunately, Kai bring more than "standard illnesses" such as HD, ED, PL and eyes (PRA). There are genes for epilepsy and heart problems in the breed.

It's not a bad thing if a Kai has spots on his tongue. Depending on the style, these are even very popular in the Japanese standard! Kai doesn't lighten up with age either. This is a fallacy. They are born with a fixed number of stripes that just grow apart as they age.
